Treon Harris Suspended: Univ. of Florida QB Accused of Sex Harassment

By    |   Monday, 06 October 2014 05:33 PM EDT

University of Florida quarterback Treon Harris has been suspended while authorities investigate a report that he sexually harassed a student early Sunday morning.

The university’s police department and the Gainesville, Florida, will be investigating the claim.

"We have no tolerance for sexual assault on our campus," UF President Bernie Machen said in a news release. "The university is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for every member of the UF community. We must strive to protect all of our students from sexual harassment and assault, and do everything in our power to promote a safe learning environment."

Fox News reported that the alleged assault happened at a campus residence hall.

“Props to Fla for acting so quickly. Good to know that not all Florida schools require someone to actually be convicted before getting a suspension. Hope for the kid that this is just false. But prayers for all involved,” one person wrote on a Saturday Down South story.

"Harris, a 5-foot-11, 190-pounder from Miami Booker T. Washington High School, was in position to be named the starter Monday, but Florida canceled its weekly media available with coach Will Muschamp because of the investigation involving the freshman," ESPN Sports wrote.

Harris’ attorney, Huntley Johnson, told the Orlando Sentinel that his client is cooperating and he does not expect him to be detained.

The alleged incident occurred just after Harris was receiving kudos for stepping into Saturday’s game against Tennessee and carrying the team to victory.
