A tornado near Sacramento damaged a dozen homes as rare twisters touched down during storms in Northern California.

Most damage occurred in Roseville, where the debris path was about 300 yards long, CBS reported. No injuries were reported.

“I left this 15 years ago in the Midwest, and here we are with damage to our house from a tornado,” Mark Thompson of Roseville told KOVR-TV.

Numerous funnel clouds dotted the skies as the storm system swept through the area. A tornado touched down in Ordbend, but no damage was reported there. The storm also brought hail and heavy rain to the area.

In Roseville, the 12 houses that were damaged are still safe to live in, a fire department spokesperson told the Merced Sunstar. All 12 had roof damage, with a few reporting fence damage and damage from debris hitting the homes.

Michael Yokishawa, who lives in the area of Roseville where the tornado touched down, told CBS News, “It was scary at the time because the wind was just swirling."

Although the tornadoes were not welcomed by residents, the spring rains that came afterward were helpful to California, which had one of their driest winters on record, the National Weather Service said.

In its Spring Outlook published last week, NWS said it expected to see “significant and widespread drought conditions continue in California, which experienced its warmest and third driest winter on record.”

CBS reported rain would likely continue through Sunday in Sacramento Valley, which could get another half-inch of rain. The Bay area is also expected to get more rain, with the northern area looking at as much as 1 to 2 inches.

California's weather sparked conversation online.
