Tornadoes ripped through Oklahoma on Wednesday, killing 1, injuring many, and leaving tens of thousands of residents without power going into Thursday.
The Associated Press reported via Yahoo that Tulsa County Sheriff's Capt. Billy McKelvey said one person died in a 50-trailer mobile home park in the suburb of Sand Spring.
"It could have been much worse," he said.
Three people were injured during the storm, one critically. Utilities companies said Thursday that 79,000 customers were without power, including 10 schools — prompting them to cancel classes. Interstate 35 was closed through Moore.
Damage from tornadoes and heavy straight-line winds were reported in the nearby town of Mannford. Storms also rattled Westport, as well as the Arkansas towns of Berryville and Clifty.
KFOR Chief Meteorologist Mike Morgan and Bob Moore Chopper 4 pilot Jon Welsh were live on air and captured video of a tornado forming, complete with flashes of light from electrical explosions.
