Tom Hanks is in negotiations to play Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger in "Miracle on the Hudson," the upcoming film to be directed by Clint Eastwood.
Deadline Hollywood reported that Hanks, 58, is in talks with Warner Bros, and that the new film would add one more hero role to his credits. A go-to actor for hero roles, Hanks' portrayal of "Captain Phillips" was a similar role, as was the classic "Apollo 13."
Eastwood, 85, announced the new film earlier this month, and both critics and moviegoers have high hopes for his new film considering the mega-success of "American Sniper."
Like "Sniper," Eastwood's new film will tell the story of a real-life American hero, Captain Sully, who penned the book "Highest Duty: My Search For What Really Matters" following the incident on the Hudson.
In 2009, Captain Sully was piloting US Airways Flight 1549 out of New York's LaGuardia Airport when the airplane hit a flock of geese. The plane was damaged by the geese, and forced the captain to make an emergency landing—right in the middle of the Hudson River between Manhattan and New Jersey.
The incredible water landing saved the lives of all 155 people aboard the plane, and Sully was celebrated as a hero.
