Tom Hanks' onstage proposal for a fan at the Texas Book Festival in Austin over the weekend left one woman nearly speechless in front of the crowd of about 1,000 people.
Hanks was talking to the audience about his career and new book "Uncommon Type: Some Stories," when near the end of a question-and-answer session, the Oscar-winning actor said that be became bored with being asked questions and wanted to ask one of his own, KVUE-TV reported.
"Here's Ryan's question, and it's for Nikki Young," Hanks said onstage. "Nikki, will you marry me?"
Hanks ushered the couple on stage where Ryan McFarling proposed to Young, per KVUE-TV. Hanks then gave them a big hug and snapped a few pics with the newly engaged couple.
"I'm like super fangirl with Tom Hanks," Young said on a video posted on Facebook. "… I got a flower from Tom Hanks. And the ring. I don't know how he did this, but I know he was fidgety and nervous all day."
Photos of the proposal were posted on social media.
ABC News said Hanks is known for lending a helping hand, such as going to Twitter in 2015 to tell a Fordham University student that he found her lost student identification card and helping a San Francisco Girls Scout troop sell cookies.
