Olympic diver Tom Daley and filmmaker Dustin Lance Black formally announced their engagement in London's Sunday Times over the weekend, avoiding cutesy Instagram posts and other social media outlets.
The purchased announcement was simple and classy: "The engagement is announced between Tom, son of Robert and Debra Daley of Plymouth, and Lance, son of Jeff Bisch of Philadelphia and Anne Bisch of Lake Providence.”
But despite this more traditional take on marriage, Daley did use YouTube in 2013 to come out, saying at the time, "In an ideal world, I wouldn't be doing this video because it shouldn't matter . . . Come spring this year, my life changed, massively, when I met someone, and they make me feel so happy, so safe, and everything just feels great. That someone is a guy. It did take me by surprise a little bit. It was always in the back of my head that something like that could happen."
Daley, 21, and Black, 41, have been
dating for two years, according to The Guardian, and both have posted on Instagram about their relationship in the past.
Daley's mother, Debbie Daley, told the Plymouth Herald that she is thrilled about her son's engagement.
"The whole family is extremely excited and looking forward to the big day. They are going to wait until after the Olympic Games in Rio before they decide on the date of the wedding and where they want to marry," she said.
Daley currently is in Stratford, England, training for the Olympics.
