TLC is bringing back "Trading Spaces," the home improvement show that ran on the network from 2000 through 2008 and helped kick off the popularity of home fixer upper shows.

In the original show, neighbors helped redesign a room in another neighbor's home with $1,000 and help from interior designers, according to E! News. The show was hosted by Alex McLeod and then by Paige Davis.

Ty Pennington, who got his television break as a carpenter on "Trading Spaces," went on to host the hit ABC series "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."

"TLC is back into home and property with Nate & Jeremiah By Design, our new show helping distressed homeowners turn disasters into dream homes," said TLC president and general manager Nancy Daniels, per E! News.

"We are thrilled to expand in this space, and what better way to do that than to bring back 'Trading Spaces,' the series that put property on the map."

People magazine noted the original show featured a rotating cast of designers known for their big personalities and wacky ideas. One designer, Genevieve Gorder, moved on to host her own show "Dear Genevieve," and appeared as a judge on HGTV's show "Design Star."

Davis left the show in 2005 and hosted OWN's "Home Made Simple" in 2011, noted E! News.

"Daniels did not immediately provide any additional information about the reboot, but revamped classic shows are becoming a theme at Discovery Communications as of late,"  said Fox News' Leora Arnowitz. "On Monday, news broke that 'Cash Cab' is set to return to Discovery, and 'Mythbusters' is headed to the Science Channel this year."

Discovery Communication is the umbrella company that is the home of a variety of networks, including Discovery, TLC, Animal Planet, the Oprah Winfrey Network, Velocity, American Heroes Channel, and Destination America.
