Tina Fey: Lindsay Lohan 'Mean Girls' Sequel Not Going to Happen

By    |   Friday, 14 March 2014 07:42 AM EDT

Tina Fey put the kibosh on all the "Mean Girls" sequel rumors this week, saying that, if anything, the cast of the Lindsay Lohan-led comedy might plan a get together to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the film.

"Mean Girls" premiered in April 2004 and immediately became an icon of teen culture with its quotable catch phrases and somewhat realistic depiction of high school cliques. Fey starred in the movie and also wrote the screenplay based off Rosalind Wiseman's 2002 book "Queen Bees and Wannabes: Helping Your Daughter Survive Cliques, Gossip, Boyfriends, and Other Realities of Adolescence."

Rumors about a potential sequel have run rampant for months, reaching a peak in February when both Fey and Lohan appeared together on Jimmy Fallon's inaugural episode of "The Tonight Show."

"Yeah, I saw [Lohan] at the first episode of 'The Tonight Show.' We did that bit with Jimmy, and I said to her, 'Oh, I think someone may call us about doing some kind of reunion because next month is the 10th anniversary of the movie,'" Fey told Access Hollywood in a piece published Tuesday.

But not so fast "Mean Girls" fans — Fey said a second installment of the movie is probably not going to happen.

"At most it would be like a panel discussion with a plate of hot wings," she joked. "Not another movie."

She echoed those thoughts again Tuesday at the premiere of "Muppets Most Wanted" at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood.

"We're coming up next month on the 10-year anniversary of the original movie," Fey told Extra. "I can't believe it either. We're going to see if there's any way to get everyone together, but not a movie, sadly. We're all past high school age."
