Nebraska basketball coach Tim Miles banned his team from using its locker room and from speaking to the media until further notice following an embarrassing 74-46 home Big Ten loss to Iowa on Sunday.
The Cornhuskers, which made the NCAA tournament last season, is mired in a five-game losing streak at the most critical point of the season, falling under .500 at 13-14 overall and
5-10 overall, according to the Omaha World-Herald.
Things won't get any easier for Nebraska as they continue Big Ten play at No. 24-ranked Ohio State on Thursday, at Illinois on March 4, and at home against No. 16 Maryland on March 8.
"There will be chains on the doors locking it from the outside," Miles said, according to the newspaper, saying that he was not sure where his players would get dressed for practice. "Good luck. They're creative."
Miles dubbed the Cornhuskers "the Bad News Bears" in their 28-point loss to Iowa, and said that he was angered by their lack of effort to the point that he thinks fans who came out to watch the game deserved a refund.
"You never want to throw your players under the bus, but that was just beyond
disappointing," Miles said, reported KETV. "That's not what we represent. When I was at Southwest Minnesota State as the coach, to pay for shoes at the Renaissance Festival in Minnesota for a weekend (we had) to pick up trash. If I had the option, I would do that tonight, tomorrow, and the next day to pay back the fans for their tickets."
The Hendricks Training Complex for Nebraska men's basketball team is one of the top facilities in the Big Ten.
According to the men's basketball website, there's a practice gym steps away from the team room, a video room with 23 swivel arm tables, and a locker room on the main level.
The team lounge includes three 65-inch televisions and a food preparation area that includes a full-size refrigerator and a microwave. The locker room includes 20 personalized lockers with iPads, according to the website.
