A tiger attack at a Beijing, China, animal park killed one woman and injured another Saturday.
It happened when one woman got out of her car in a section of Badaling Wildlife World where people drive their own vehicles through a Siberian
tiger enclosure, The New York Times reported.
The woman reportedly left the car because of an argument with her husband, the Times said, citing Beijing newspaper The Legal Evening News. When she walked around to the driver's side of the vehicle, a tiger attacked and dragged her away. The woman's husband and mother got out of the car in an attempt to save her, and the mother was killed. A child remained in the car during the attack and was unharmed.
A friend of the family denied that the couple had been fighting, the Times said, citing The Beijing News.
A video showing a tiger dragging the first woman away was shared widely online.
Visitors are forbidden from getting out of their cars while driving through the
enclosure, The Associated Press reported.
The park near the Great Wall has seen animal attacks before. In March, an employee was killed by an elephant, and a security guard was killed by a tiger in 2014, The Times reported.
The mother who died at the scene was
57, the South China Morning Post reported, citing The Beijing News. The daughter, in her 30s, was in serious condition after undergoing surgery Sunday morning.
The younger woman reportedly ignored warnings from a nearby patrol vehicle before the attack. Warnings are posted on signs and broadcast on loud speakers. Visitors also are required to sign an agreement that they won't open doors or windows, the Morning Post said.
The park is currently closed for an investigation.
