The Who will start a Las Vegas residency this summer at Caesars Palace, as the legendary British rock band, wraps up their final road tour in April.
The Who, which was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990, is planning to open its six-show residency at The Colosseum on July 29, even though it was described as a first run, The Guardian reported.
The band's leaders Peter Townshend and Roger Daltrey are 73 and 71, respectively, and had described their current tour as a "long goodbye," the newspaper noted.
"One of rock's most legendary and defining bands, The Who joins the home of the greatest entertainers in the world as the first rock band to take residency at The Colosseum since the venue opened in 2003," a statement on the band's website said.
Other performance dates were Aug. 1, 4, 7, 9, and 11, according to the website. The band is best known for its rock opera "Tommy" and such hits as "I Can’t Explain,' "My Generation," "The Kids are Alright," and "Who Are You," Rolling Stone magazine noted.
Other entertainers who have taken up residency at The Colosseum include Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Elton John, and Rod Stewart.
"It's much nicer to play our music to younger audiences, who really haven't grown up with it," Townshend told Rolling Stone about their current tour. "That's what struck me about the last five weeks of the tour; we were playing to a much larger number of younger people. I just feel, like, 'Wow. I'm alive to see a new generation of people really get this stuff.' It's just a real kick."
Some of the band's fans on social media appear to already be making plans for Las Vegas.
