Two hundred Tesla surfboards costing $1,500 each sold out in one day over the weekend on the company's website.
Some of the limited edition surfboards already are up for sale on eBay at costs from $2,000 to more than $5,000, according to Business Insider.
Tesla used the same matte and gloss paints as it uses for its cars on the surfboards, which are designed in similar red-and-black fashion with carbon fiber. The boards were made to fit comfortably “on either the inside or outside” of Tesla’s own Model S, X and 3 vehicles.
Tesla may have turned to selling the surfboards as a way to keep cash flowing after CEO Elon Musk asked for refunds from some suppliers in efforts to turn a profit, USA Today reported.
The company paired with Lost Surfboards and Matt "Mayhem" Biolos, who shapes surfboards for World Surf League Championship athletes, to design the boards.
While buyers can pay extra to get one secondhand, it still could take a while to get it. Shipping for the original orders could take up to 10 weeks because the boards were specially made for order.
Tesla doesn't just make cars: The company also has sold miniature cars for kids, shirts, hats, and even flamethrowers, which managed to sell out in a few days.
