A 19-year-old Tennessee man is being held in the shooting deaths of three people at a home in Bristol over the weekend.
The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office told the Kingsport Times-News that it is continuing to investigate what led to the Saturday shooting that authorities preliminarily dubbed a domestic dispute. Robert Seth Denton remains in custody.
Sullivan County Sheriff Wayne Anderson told WCYB-TV that authorities believe that Denton walked up the driveway of the home with a weapon and began shooting people inside. Law enforcement officials have not yet revealed Denton's relationship to the victims.
The suspect was found in a vehicle down the road from the home, according to Leslie Earhart, public information for the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office. He was suffering from a gunshot wound but did not say how he received the wound.
According to WJHL-TV, authorities have charged Denton with three counts of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting. The television station added that he was also charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.
Authorities said that two women were pronounced dead at the scene while an adult male was transported via helicopter to Johnson City Medical Center where he later died from his wounds.
Earhart told WJHL-TV a child inside the home at the time of the incident was injured and taken to Bristol Regional Medical Center and was listed in stable condition. Several other children inside the home were not injured.
Earhart said that Denton and a man on the property but not inside the home separately called 911 about the shooting on Saturday. Authorities accused Denton of using a long gun in the fatal attacks.
Denton received treatment for his wound at a hospital before law enforcement officers transferred him to the Sullivan County Jail in Blountville. Authorities said they expected to reveal the names of the victims and possible motives on Monday.
