A motion picture adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit Broadway musical “Cats” is set to go into production, and will star Taylor Swift and Jennifer Hudson, Variety reported.
The announcement caused one fan to exclaim that it’s “the most Taylor Swift thing she could have done.”
“The King’s Speech” Academy Award winning director Tom Hooper has signed on to direct the film, and James Corden and Ian McKellen have also been cast with Hudson and Swift.
The musical was based upon T. S. Eliot's “Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats.” Hudson has been cast to play Grizabella; the characters to be portrayed by Swift, Corden, and McKellen haven’t yet been announced.
Shooting of the film version is slated to begin production in November in England. Hudson announced the project to her Twitter followers, with a short video clip.
“Cats” first opened in London in 1981 and enjoyed a long run on Broadway — from 1982 to 2000, People reported.
Swift has appeared in several other films, including “Valentine’s Day” and “The Giver” with Jeff Bridges. But this one should be tailor-made for the Grammy award winner. The 28-year-old singer is the world’s most famous lover of felines.
