Three Tampa street racing suspects accused of the death of a 24-year-old Ohio mother have been released on bail, Tampabay.com noted.
The incident took place at around midday on Wednesday when a 2018 Ford Mustang, driven by 18-year-old Cameron Herrin, allegedly struck Jessica Reisinger as she was pushing her 21-month-old daughter in a stroller across Bayshore Boulevard.
Witnesses said Cameron Herrin, who was driving with his 20-year-old brother Tristan Herrin as a passenger, was racing a gold Nissan being driven by 17-year-old John Alexander Barrineau, according to police reports.
The vehicles were traveling along Bayshore Boulevard at speeds reaching 60 mph when the Mustang fatally hit Reisinger.
By the time the young mother reached Tampa General Hospital she was dead, and her daughter remains hospitalized in critical condition as of Thursday morning, Tampabay.com reported.
Cameron Herrin was released on $500 bail and faces a misdemeanor charge of drag racing while his brother was released after posting $10,000 bail and faces charges of vehicular homicide, street racing, and reckless driving resulting in serious bodily injury.
It is currently clear whether Barrineau has been released on bail but he also faces charges of vehicular homicide, street racing, and reckless driving resulting in serious bodily injury.
Street racing has produced tragedies across the state, and Tampa residents are particularly concerned about Bayshore Boulevard.
Reisinger was attempting a lawful crossing at a pedestrian ramp at an intersection, USA Today noted.
Residents such as Frank Beaty said they were forced to "watch for a gap, and take off," to cross the busy roadway.
