Reality TV star Tamar Braxton reportedly threatened suicide to network bosses weeks before she was hospitalized for an alleged drug overdose. The 43-year-old, who appears alongside her family in the "Braxton Family Values" show, made the comment in an email accusing WeTV executives of pitting her family members against one another for higher ratings.
"We fight with each other, we betray each other, and now we’re physically assaulting each other — all happening because your show has chosen to show the absolute worst side of a strong, independent and successful African American family; a show that I created to showcase a strong Black Family as a beacon of hope for all the young black girls and boys out there; instead you coached and cajoled us into finding the worst in each other," she wrote, according to Page Six. "I hope those ratings were worth it because you succeeded in destroying a great black family."
Braxton further accused the network of revealing that she had repeatedly been raped from age six to 16 — a "secret" that her family only learned about when it was broached in an episode of the show.
"You broke me that day and I considered ending my own life then for the shame I felt!" she wrote in her email. "I have news for you! Today, I take my power back. I will no longer tolerate being oppressed," Braxton added. "I am asking you to break the chains NOW and LET ME GO I am suffocating! I CAN’T BREATHE!!"
Braxton was rushed to a hospital on Wednesday after she was found "unresponsive" by her boyfriend, David Adefeso, while staying at the Ritz-Carlton Residences in downtown Los Angeles, The Blast reported. Sources told the outlet that Adefeso contacted 911 and reported that Braxton had been drinking when she took an unknown amount of prescription pills. He reportedly suspected that it may have been a suicide attempt.
Braxton is now in a stable condition at a Los Angeles hospital, the outlet noted.
