Taco Bell announced Thursday that tortilla chips inspired by its sauces will be rolled out to grocery and convenience stores beginning in May.
Classic, Mild, and Fire chips will have bags that look like larger versions of the tiny sauce packets customers use to flavor their tacos and burritos, and will be flavored accordingly.
“Our sauce packets are one of the brand’s most unique aspects and were the natural choice for both the flavors and packaging of our tortilla chips,” Taco Bell chief brand officer Marisa Thalberg said in a news release.
While the Classic chips in a white bag are merely salted, the Mild chips have cumin and three types of chili peppers, and the Fire chips have jalapeño, chili peppers, and paprika. The chips will be produced by Sugar Foods and will complement the line of dips, sauces, shells, and seasoning mixes that are already in grocery stores in partnership with Kraft.
The Mild chips have a yellow color to them, while the Fire chips are more red. Mild and Fire chips will come in 1-ounce, 3.5-ounce and 11-ounce sizes, with Classic coming in 13-ounce size instead of 11.
The launch of the new tortilla chip flavors closely follows January’s highly successful launch of Nacho Fries and March’s reintroduction of the Naked Egg Taco in Taco Bell's restaurant locations.
Twitter users seemed to be excited about the launch of Taco Bell tortilla chips.
