CBS "Supergirl" Melissa Benoist’s costume was revealed this week, and while it follows the classic cape and skirt design, it's less revealing than the one worn by Supergirl in the DC Comics.
The original costume is skimpier and bares Supergirl's midriff.
“The more conservative mesh garb in muted colors is very similar to what Henry Cavill wears in the Warner Bros. ‘Superman’ movies — maybe DC and the studio are eying a potential
crossover of the cousins in matching outfits?” Deadline speculated.
“In designing Supergirl, I wanted to embrace the past, but more importantly, thrust her into the street-style action hero of today,” Deadline quoted three-time Oscar winner Colleen Atwood, who designed the Supergirl costume.
If “Supergirl” makes it to the TV screen, it will be the first female lead on a network superhero series. NBC started working on a Wonder Woman show in recent years, but it never made it to production.
Benoist took to Twitter to announce her excitement about playing Supergirl.
