Rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight arrived chained to a stretcher-like wheelchair for a preliminary hearing in a robbery case in Los Angeles and was made to look like Hannibal Lecter in the movie "The Silence of the Lambs," his lawyer complained.
The robbery charge in which Knight is accused with comedian Katt Williams of attacking a freelance photographer and taking his camera last Sept. 5 in Beverly Hills is relatively minor compared to the former music executive's other legal woes,
according to the San Jose Mercury News.
Knight, 49, collapsed in court last month after a judge set bail at $25 million in an unrelated murder case and he had to be hospitalized,
reported TMZ.
Knight is charged in that case with deliberately running over Terry Carter, 55, and Cle "Bone" Sloan, 51, in a restaurant parking lot on Jan. 29. The incident followed an argument on the set of a commercial about the picture "Straight Outta Compton,"
according to the Los Angeles Times. Carter died and Sloan was seriously injured.
Knight's attorney, Matthew Fletcher, made the comparison to the Hannibal Lecter character after Knight was required to be chained to the wheelchair for Wednesday's hearing at the Criminal Courts building, according to the Times.
"I walk perfectly fine," Knight told the judge and asked if he could sit in a regular chair.
Fletcher complained to the
New York Daily News that Knight was being held under restrictions at the Los Angeles County Jail that were worse than "Guantanamo Bay." He charged that his client is not allowed to use the phone or have visits with family members or meet with anyone working on his murder case other than his lawyer, reported the Daily News.
Fletcher said he has been fighting to have a forensic reconstructionist meet with Knight but has not been allowed to do so.
"If experts can't speak to him, they can't do their job," said Fletcher. "We will never be able to present a defense. This truly should shock people."
