A worker at a Subway restaurant in northern Utah is accused of spiking the drink of a police officer with methamphetamine and THC, sending the cop reeling and him to jail.

Tanis Ukena, 18, was arrested and taken to Davis County jail on suspicion of poisoning the Layton police sergeant, KUTV reported.

Ukena allegedly stepped out of view of a surveillance camera with something in his hand before serving the officer his drink at the restaurant's drive-thru, the station reported.

The officer reportedly began to feel ill after about three sips, struggled to find the brake pedal during his drive, and was unable to answer questions when he arrived at the police station, The Associated Press reported.

The officer was taken to the hospital and released Monday night.

Ukena denied the allegations. He posted $10,000 bail.

Subway is cooperating in the investigation.

"We are shocked by these charges," spokesman Shawn Cook said in an statement emailed to the AP. "The restaurant owners are working closely with the police in their investigation and will take appropriate action."

The officer was reportedly in uniform and driving a marked police car.

"This is pretty surprising to us, certainly," Lt. Travis Lyman told the AP. "I imagine officers will be bringing lunch from home for some time."

Lyman said it is unknown whether the officer was targeted because he's a police officer.

"I know that the community here in Utah is overwhelmingly supportive of law enforcement, and we’ve experienced that over the last couple of months. … I think this is a very isolated incident," Layton Police Sgt. Clint Bobrowski said, according to KSL.com.

Some Twitter users expressed outrage about the incident.
