"Stranger Things" has officially delayed Season 3 until next summer, but Netflix said it will be worth the wait for the next installments of the science fiction horror series set in the 1980s, The Wrap reported on Sunday.
Netflix made the announcement during the Television Critics Association's press tour, no doubt disappointing fans of the Emmy Award-winning series, with Cindy Holland, vice president of original content for the streaming video service, explaining that "Stranger Things" is a "hand-crafted show."
"You know, the (creators) the Duffer Brothers and (director) Shawn Levy have worked really hard and they understand the stakes are high," Holland said, according to The Wrap. "They want to deliver something bigger and better than what they did last year. And so, they really want to take the time to get it right. I think it's gonna be a fantastic season, it's gonna be worth the wait."
Deadline Hollywood said Holland elaborated a little more after the panel discussion, saying there will be "more special effects. It's going to be a really exciting season."
The series debuted to critical acclaim in 2016 with eight episodes on Netflix. It returned for a second season in 2017 with nine episodes, the last being Oct. 27.
On its website, "Stranger Things" said the series "is an homage to 'E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,' Stephen King, and other sci-fi and horror classics of the 80s."
Some fans of the show tried to take the delay in stride on social media; others, not so much.
