Singer Steve Perry, former frontman for Journey, made a surprise appearance at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Sunday.

Perry performed with indie-rock band the Eels, singing their song "It's a Motherf—er." It was the first time Perry has performed at a concert since 1995.

“I love that song,” Perry told the crowd. “When I first met (Everett, the Eels’ lead singer) I said someday I wanted to sing that song. And tonight is the first time I've ever sang it."

He also performed Journey songs "Open Arms" and "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin’.”

Perry’s last performance with Journey was in 1991 and his last solo appearance was in 1995, promoting his solo album “For the Love of Strange Medicine.”

Health problems, including arthritis, hip replacement surgery, and two melanoma removal surgeries contributed to Perry’s absence from the stage, according to Us Weekly.

AWOL Nation frontman Aaron Bruno told Rolling Stone last year that Perry was working with the band on a new record.

Fans shared their reactions on Twitter.
