Belgian beer maker Stella Artois has voluntarily recalled some of its 11.2-ounce beer bottles because they could contain tiny glass particles.
The brand, which is owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev, said a third-party manufacturer discovered a flaw in their packaging process that could cause small pieces of glass to break off the bottle and fall inside. Only about 1 percent of all glass bottles sold in the U.S. are affected.
Stella Artois 6-packs, 12-packs, 18-packs, 24-packs, “Best of Belgium” multi-packs in the U.S. and Canada as well as Stella Artois Legere 6-packs and 12-packs in the U.S. are affected.
“The safety of our consumers is our top priority. While the number of potentially affected glass bottles is very small, we are recalling these Stella Artois packages as a precautionary measure,” Stella Artois Global Brand Vice President Christina Choi said in a statement. “Our team of technical experts has been working with our third-party glass bottle supplier to ensure this packaging flaw has been addressed.”
A website was created by the company for consumers to get information about the recall and find production codes that may be affected. Refunds can be claimed through the site.
Other beer manufacturers including Corona and Sierra Nevada have issued similar recalls in recent years.
