Actor Stanley Anderson, known for his roles on "Seinfeld" and "Spider-Man," died Sunday at age 78.

The stage, film, and TV actor played the U.S. president in "The Rock" (1996) and "Armageddon" (1998) and did voiceover work for Democratic political candidates, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

His family confirmed his death, which came six weeks after he was diagnosed with brain cancer, the publication noted.

He played General Locum in 2002's "Spider-Man," the judge on the final episode of "Seinfeld," and Drew Carey's dad on "The Drew Carey Show."

Anderson began his career at the Seattle Repertory Theatre before moving on to the Actor’s Theatre of Louisville and working more than 20 years at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., where he won a Helen Hayes Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in "The Piggy Bank," The Wrap reported.

"Stanley was a long-time member of three labor unions for actors," a statement from his family said, according to The Wrap. "Concurrent with his acting career, he was well-known behind the scenes for his three decades of voiceover work in ads for Democratic candidates and issues across the country. He was most proud, ultimately, of the part he played in politics."

A 1989 article in The Washington Post described Anderson, who grew up in Montana, as "prodigiously talented."

"Stanley accumulates more traits in any given moment of playing than anyone I've ever worked with," Arena Stage founder Zelda Fichandler said, according to the Post. "Part of him is shy, gentle, supportive, careful of other people's rights. And part of him is passionate, assertive, stubborn when need be."
