Stan Wawrinka's shorts stole the spotlight during the tennis star's French Open victory over the weekend.
The 30-year-old's red, white, and gray plaid shorts blew up on Twitter after Wawrinka beat tennis world champion Novak Djokovic.
After winning the French Open, Wawrinka placed the pair of shorts over the podium at a post-game press conference where he entertained members of the media by poking fun at how much publicity they had gotten.
"I know a lot of people talk about it, and it's quite funny that they
won the French Open," Wawrinka joked, according to USA Today.
“I’m going to swim, play tennis, and then sleep in them,” he said of the shorts, USA Today reported citing French sports newspaper, L’Equipe. "They will be in the museum of Roland Garros. You will see my shorts everyday if you want."
Admirers of Wawrinka's polyester Yonex shorts can
purchase them at Tennis-Warehouse.com. The website says the shorts feature “an elastic waistband with internal draw cord, side pockets, open back pocket, all-over plaid design, and an embroidered Yonex logo at left leg hem.” The shorts also come in two other colors, including blue and black. The price, including shipping and handling, comes to a total of $42.
Though the shorts talk was all in good fun, many were shocked that the Swiss tennis player beat Djokovic, who until Sunday had been
unbeatable on clay in 2015, according to EuroSport.com.
Tweets erupted after the match, supporting and condemning Wawrinka’s shorts and fashion sense.
