A Spirit Airlines brawl broke out on Monday at Fort Lauderdale Airport after several flights were canceled.
Flight cancellations angered customers, who became restless while waiting in long lines in the airport on Monday, according to ABC News.
Video footage captured the chaos at a Spirit Airlines terminal where travelers can be seen getting into altercations and arguing with airport staff while police tried to intervene.
"There were several people there that were upset," Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Gina Carter said Monday, according to ABC News. "We were called in to just make sure that things were kept from getting very unruly."
According to CNN, Spirit Airlines has canceled about 300 flights in the last seven days, causing a buildup of fed-up passengers who approached a ticket counter in the terminal on Monday.
In the midst of the chaos, deputies pulled several people out of the crowd and some were even seen being handcuffed while lying on the ground.
It’s unclear whether or not those individuals will face charges.
"I saw two people go down on the floor and get…handcuffed and dragged out of here," one unnamed passenger and witness said, according to ABC News.
"There was a lady [detained] earlier. She was quite upset and very vocal about her frustrations," another passenger said. "I see people are very disappointed."
The airport issued a statement late Monday regarding the incident.
"We are shocked and saddened to see the videos of what took place at Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport this evening," the company said, according to ABC News. "This is a result of unlawful labor activity by some Spirit pilots designed to disrupt Spirit operations for our customers, by canceling multiple flights across our network."
There were many reactions on Twitter following the brawl.
