A South Korea pileup snarled traffic on a bridge near Incheon International Airport near Seoul Wednesday, involving around 100 cars and causing casualties and multiple injuries.
Officials said foggy weather and icy roads may have contributed to the pileup in which two people were killed and at least 68
injured, The Associated Press reported.
Lee Gyeong-hoon, a driver who escaped injury, told the AP that the fog limited his vision, causing him to drive slowly. His car was hit from behind.
"I saw the brake lights of the car in front of me turn on and I stopped abruptly," Lee told the AP.
Among those injured in the crash were 18 foreigners, including seven Chinese, three Thai nationals, and two each from the Philippines and Vietnam, the AP noted.
The initial cause of the pileup wasn’t immediately known,
but the BBC reported that early reports said a bus hit the back of a car in the fog.
"I heard a series of bangs in front of me. Then I was rear-ended by a following car," cab driver Yoo Sang-young said, according to the BBC. "I felt my car turning around and hitting a protection rail. I then lost consciousness."
The 14,000-foot-long over-sea bridge connects Seoul and the airport on Yongjing island.
Images of the scene spread quickly on social media.
