'Snow White' Sequel Won't Have Kristen Stewart or Snow White: Reports

In an unusual twist for a sequel, Kristen Stewart’s “Snow White and the Huntsman” movie’s follow-up reportedly won’t star Stewart and won’t even feature Snow White.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Studios is spinning off "The Huntsman" from the successful "Snow White" movie, and Chris Hemsworth will return in that title role, as will Charlize Theron, the movie’s villain. But Stewart isn’t coming back, THR said, and neither is director Rupert Sanders.

Sanders and Stewart generated some bad publicity when photographs of the two showing they were apparently embroiled in an affair came out. Sanders was married and Stewart was dating Robert Pattinson, her former co-star for the "Twilight" movies series.

Forbes said the studio was planning the sequel without Snow White all along, and that the affair and media storm had nothing to do with the company’s decision.

THR said Universal is in talks with executive producer Frank Darabont about directing the movie.

"Universal successfully sold 'Snow White and the Huntsman' as a female-empowerment action fantasy partially on the drawing power of Kristen Stewart, all-the-while plotting to toss her out of the franchise in favor of a male-centric spin-off," Forbes’ Scott Mendelson wrote.

The movie drew from Stewart’s fan base after Twilight to create its success, Mendelson contended, and would not have had the same pull if she wasn’t in it.

"Love or hate 'Twilight,' but the series created a large and rabid fan base for the once-and-future indie film actress, and that was the fan base that helped propel the action fantasy to $56 million on opening weekend when 'official tracking' said something closer to $35 million. Kristen Stewart delivered but basically lost her job to a man anyway," he wrote.

The news that Stewart wouldn’t be in the film jarred some people online.
