Siesta Beach in Florida was named the best in the U.S.
by TripAdvisor.com as part of this year's Travelers Choice rankings.
The gulf shores of this "pristine beach that never seems to end" is roughly an hour south of Tampa, and was called a "photographer's dream" as well as "A place in the sun that warrants returning again and again."
Hotel rooms in Siesta Beach start at around $200, and travelers can choose from a range of options from surfside motels to cottages to bed and breakfasts.
The Huffington Post reported that the waters are a dark turquoise color, and that the Siesta Key as a whole has been given many accolades in the past. In 2011, for example, Dr. Beach named the whole island the best beach in the country.
Overall, Florida took 9 of the top 25 slots, with Siesta Beach climbing up from No. 3 last year. TripAdvisor explained that the rankings are based on the quantity and quality of user-generated reviews on its website.
While Florida and Hawaii dominated the U.S. rankings, Baia do Sancho, in Brazil, was named the top beach in the world.
