Sidney Fahrenbruch, a 4-year-old Colorado girl, decided last week to donate all the money in her piggy bank to a police officer battling cancer.
The little girl gave $9 plus some change to Officer Kyle Zulauf of the Longmont Police Department in Colorado, a father of three who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer one-and-a-half years ago and needs another surgery, according to Today.
Sidney has been in the headlines before, Today reported. Earlier this year, local officer David Bonday came to her new house to check it for monsters, and the story went viral.
Her mother, Megan Fahrenbruch, said that her daughter is fascinated by police and visits the police station at least once a week to bring them cookies and candy, Today reported. On one of those visits, she noticed the fundraising poster for Zulauf's campaign.
"Words are not available for what this means to us," the police department said in a statement, Today reported. The police department hopes that her gesture will inspire others to contribute as well.
Sidney told Today that it was an easy decision to give away her savings.
"It's the nice thing to do," she said.
"It feels good that she's so giving," her mother said. "She wanted to save the money for a toy but decided someone needed it more than her," Today reported.
The story was posted on Facebook last week, and many commented on her generosity.
"You are one special lady to the LPD," one commented.
"You have raised a beautiful daughter," said another.
"Day. Made," still another person commented.
