Shaquille O’Neal’s mansion in Florida has been listed for sale at the asking price of $28 million.
The suburban Orlando estate of O’Neal, a former NBA superstar, is 31,000 square feet, has 12 bedrooms, sits on three acres of land, and features a fitness facility and an outdoor swimming complex, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The home has many over-the-top features including a 15-foot wide bed in the master bedroom and a movie theater, according to the WSJ, and Superman stuff can be found throughout the house, since that was a nickname of O’Neal’s.
There is also garage space for up to 17 cars and a private dock. The outdoor pool, nicknamed “Shaq-apulco,” is 95 feet long and has a rock waterfall, hot tub, and adjoined outdoor kitchen, the WSJ reported reported.
O’Neal bought the estate for $3.95 million in 1993 when he was playing for the Orlando Magic and expanded it considerably over his ownership, according to the newspaper.
The listing agent, Danial Natoli of Sotheby’s, told the Wall Street Journal the home is in move-in condition but he suspects buyers might want to remodel to fit their own tastes.
O’Neal is a New Jersey native and now appears as an analyst on the TNT show “Inside the NBA.” He played for the Orlando Magic from 1992 to 1996, then played for the LA Lakers before returning to Florida to play for the Miami Heat in 2004. He retired in 2011 after playing on several other teams.
O’Neal’s reason for selling the home was not known, Natoli told the WSJ. O’Neal currently has business interests in New Jersey and California, where he is a minority owner of the Sacramento Kings.
