A promotional necklace used for Colombian singer Shakira’s world tour looks eerily similar to a symbol used by neo-Nazis.
The resemblance between the gold pendant, which reads “Shakira El Dorado World Tour,” and the emblem still worn in Nazi occult circles was noticed by the German media outlet Bento, USA Today reported, although the piece appears to have been pulled from her online shop.
The medallion being sold to plug the superstar’s tour had a sun pattern almost identical to a “Black Sun” occult symbol, except it didn't have a swastika. The Black Sun, known as Schwarze Sonne in German, was included in the design for a mosaic on the floor of Wewelsburg Castle in Germany, the planned headquarters of Heinrich Himmler and the SS, who were deeply involved in the occult.
Other buildings occupied by Nazis and the SS under Adolf Hitler also used Black Sun symbols.
The Nazis apparently liked the design because it had been linked to ancient Germanic runes and sagas. Although Nazi symbols are banned in Germany, the Black Sun has been seen in neo-Nazi corners.
The necklace was selling for $9.95 on Shakira’s online store. Although the design was an apparent blunder by her promotional team, it sparked outrage from many of her fans when they learned of the symbol’s link to neo-Nazis.
Shakira began her world tour with a June 3 concert in Hamburg, Germany.
