A 64-year-old man has decided to live out his "golden" years in a Holiday Inn rather than a retirement home, insisting the hotel offers more value for money. Terry Robison of Spring, Texas, weighed the costs of both options and found that it would be more affordable to live out his years in the mid-priced hotel, ABC News reported.
"With the average cost for a nursing home care costing $188 per day, there is a better way when we get old and too feeble," Robinson noted in a post to Facebook. "I've already checked on reservations at the Holiday Inn. For a combined long term stay discount and senior discount, its $59.23 per night."
The price difference may not be overly drastic but according to Robinson, there were significant benefits that came with living in a Holiday Inn.
"Breakfast is included, and some have happy hours in the afternoon," he pointed out. "That leaves $128.77 a day for lunch and dinner in any restaurant we want, or room service, laundry, gratuities and special TV movies."
Sweetening the deal is that many Holiday Inns offer guests access to spas, swimming pools and on-site gyms. Most stock free toothpaste, razors, soap and shampoo and also provide night security and daily room service.
"They treat you like a customer, not a patient," Robinson continued. "And you're not stuck in one place forever -- you can move from Inn to Inn, or even from city to city."
Robinson noted that retirement at a Holiday Inn would also solve the issue of loneliness amongst the elderly as family members would be more than willing to visit for a few days mini-vacation.
"What more could I ask for?" Robinson said. "So, when I reach that golden age, I'll face it with a grin."
