Selena Quintanilla, to many the martyred queen of Tejano music, has inspired a family drama-to-be with a veteran writer and producer behind it, Variety reported.
The unnamed project sees Miquel Nolla take on the role as writer and co-executive producer, bringing with him experience gained on the sets of “Private Practice,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “Scandal,” while members of the Latin icon’s family will also team up as producers for the show.
Previous documentaries such as “Murder Made Me Famous: Yolanda Saldívar,” have focused predominantly on the tragic events surrounding Quintanilla’s death, which came to an abrupt end when her former fan club president, Yolanda Saldívar, shot her, E! News noted.
However, this new series developed by Campanario Entertainment and SB Projects will instead focus on a chart-topping popstar named Alex Guerra, whose character was inspired by Quintanilla.
According to The Huffington Post, the plot will center on Guerra as Quintanilla tries to “pick up the pieces when a crisis forces her to return home.”
Viewers can expect a good dose of drama as she tries to juggle the demands of her career while reconciling with her estranged family and dealing with a love triangle.
“We are thrilled to team up with Campanario and ABC Studios and highlight the complexities and family dynamics of a Latin pop superstar coming to grips with the reality of her influence especially in today’s social climate,” said SB Projects founder Scooter Braun, per Billboard magazine.
“More importantly, we are proud to be collaborators on an incredibly timely show that focuses on a strong Latino family and represents the many Americans who we know will enjoy this series alongside us.”
Jaime Davila, president of Campanario Entertainment, said the project allowed for an opportunity to “showcase a successful, aspirational Latino family in a way that is not currently represented on television.”
