Selena Gomez will be joined by Miss Piggy and other Muppets, Alicia Keys, Demi Lovato, DJ Khaled and more, as she’s set to host WE Day California later this month.
WE Day, which takes place in cities around the world each year, is a one-day event that celebrates youth in America, placing a focus on social issues, according to Billboard.
This won’t be the first time Gomez has participated in this event – an affair that brings some 16,000 young people together.
“My first WE Day experience was three years ago, and to say I was impressed is an understatement,” Gomez said in a statement, according to CNN. “The electricity of an arena full of thousands of young people who are making real change in the world is like nothing I’ve ever experienced. I am grateful to be a part of such a supportive community and hope I can inspire the kids at WE Day just as they continue to inspire me.”
Craig Kielburger, one of the creators of WE Day, which started in 2007, said he hopes that this year’s event will create a “sustainable change for a better tomorrow.”
Gomez spoke to ET last week and addressed the importance of empowering today’s youth and encouraging them to let their voices be heard.
“I think kids especially, with social media sometimes, they just feel a little claustrophobic, and I don’t think their voice is actually being heard,” she said. “I want people to know that every single life is valuable, that their voice can be heard, and that there are people who are willing to be there for them.”
Other appearances for WE Day California will include Bryan Cranston, Alessia Cara, Josh Gad, Lilly Singh, Magic Johnson and Tyrese Gibson.
