The Secret Service director's plan to withdraw protection from Trump family members and aides was shut down by the White House, according to an upcoming book authored by Ronald Kessler, a former Washington Post and Wall Street Journal investigative reporter and longtime friend to President Donald Trump, the Daily Mail reported.

"The Trump White House: Changing the Rules of the Game" is set to be released on April 3, according to its listing on Amazon.com.

Randolph 'Tex' Alles made the proposal in hope of saving money on the Secret Service's $2 billion budget, suggesting that security protection only be provided to family members and aides of the president if threats were received, The Daily Mail reported.

Kessler pointed out that there has never been a warning threat made prior to an assassination or assassination attempt to hit the White House, and the proposal was immediately dismissed.

"Horrified White House staff immediately shot down Alles' proposal to cut back on protection," he said, noting that the Secret Service's entire cost amounted to roughly $2 billion dollars a year, with about a third of the budget going toward investigations of financial crimes.

The remainder is allocated to providing protection of the president, aides, family members, the White House and national security events, which he said is a small price to pay for protecting democracy.

"Given the hatred directed at Trump and his family, the idea that the director of the Secret Service would entertain dropping protection of the president's family members is itself a scandal and all anyone needs to know about why Alles should be replaced before a tragedy occurs," Kessler wrote in his book, according to The Daily Mail.
