Secret Service Dogs Heroes for Stopping White House Intruder

The two U.S. Secret Service dogs credited with putting the bite on a White House fence jumper this week found plenty of fans after the agency posted their pictures online.

Secret Service K-9 unit members Hurricane and Jordan attacked Dominic Adesanya, 23, of Maryland after agents said he jumped the White House fence Wednesday night, according to The New York Times. Afterward, Hurricane and Jordan were taken to the veterinarian for injuries sustained in the incident.

Hurricane and Jordan stopped Adesanya on the White House lawn until reinforcements arrived, preventing a repeat of an incident in September when Omar Gonzalez ran unimpeded into a unlocked White House.

Video showed Adesanya kicking one of the dogs before the second one took him down, then he wrestled with them before being taken into custody, according to ABC News. He was charged with two counts of felony assault on a police officer for attacking the dogs, four counts of resisting/unlawful entry, a misdemeanor, and one count of making threats, also a felony.

The Secret Service posted photos of Hurricane and Jordan on Twitter Thursday, which were both retweeted more than 800 times by Friday morning.

ABC News reported that the Secret Service started its dog program in 1975 and uses canines from Holland called Belgian Malinois because they are fast, sociable and their short hair allows them to work in the heat. Each dog completes 20 weeks of training before it takes on a job with the Secret Service.
