School Shooting: 2 Shot, 1 Killed Outside Toronto Education Facility

By    |   Monday, 06 October 2014 03:09 PM EDT

A shooting outside of a Toronto, Canada, school Monday left one person dead and another injured, and put four area schools on lockdown.

The two victims, between 15 and 20 years of age, were found near the School for Experiential Education by police responding to a call about gunshots; one of the victims was dead at the scene and the other was taken to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries, The National Post said.

The four schools were locked down because of their proximity to the shooting, an officer told the Post. They were the Don Bosco Catholic Secondary School, St. Maurice Catholic Elementary School, Kingsview PS, and the School of Experiential Education. In tweets, the Toronto police announced about 2:45 p.m. that schools would soon be taken off lockdown.

The tweets also let parents know of a nearby staging area to get more information on the situation.

The Post said three people were being sought in connection with the shooting.

Jeremy Cohn of the Global News tweeted that one man was taken into custody at the scene.

The Post said it was unclear whether the victims were students or if they had any connection to the school.
