Savannah Guthrie, co-anchor of NBC’s “Today” show, will interview President Barack Obama live at the White House on Super Bowl Sunday.
The interview will air live during
NBC’s pre-game show, "Today" reported. An additional taped interview will air on Feb. 2.
Co-anchor Matt Lauer previously conducted the show’s presidential
game day interviews, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The LA Times called the interview a recognition of Guthrie’s successful transition into the slot as co-host of the show, following Ann Curry’s emotional departure.
"It required a delicate touch," Guthrie said, according to the Times. "My own approach was not to go in there with guns blazing, saying, 'Pay attention to me.' It called for someone to come in, put their head down and do the work. I tried to be a credit to the show and not another problem."
Guthrie, a former lawyer, previously served as the NBC News White House correspondent before joining “Today” in 2011.
