Saucony and Dunkin’ Donuts have teamed up to create a Dunkin’-inspired shoe to honor the Boston Marathon this year.
Making literal the slogan that “America Runs On Dunkin’,” 2,000 pairs of the shoes were put up for preorder this week and are already sold out, Adweek reported. The Saucony X Dunkin’ Kinvara features Dunkin’-themed colors, a doughnut on the heel, coffee beans, and the Dunkin’ Donuts logo on the tongue.
“As we celebrate Saucony’s 120th anniversary, we’re proud to honor our hometown marathon and Boston’s rich running heritage in partnership with Dunkin’ Donuts, a brand known for ‘keeping American running,’” Saucony CMO Amanda Reiss said in a statement, Adweek reported. “The Saucony X Dunkin’ Kinvara 9 celebrates the joy, determination and delicious obsession of runners everywhere with a sense of playfulness that’s true to the heart and soul of both brands.”
While doughnuts and running may not seem to go together, the retailer notes that exercise-tracking app Strava lists coffee as the No. 1 food or beverage of runners, and doughnuts are No. 6, Adweek reported.
“We’ve been keeping America running on Dunkin’ for decades,” Justin Unger, Dunkin’ brands director of strategic partnerships, said of the pairing with Saucony. “It’s about celebrating the roots of both companies and the ties to both a rich running and Boston tradition.”
The Boston Marathon takes place April 6.
Twitter fans were excited about the pairing of two of Boston’s favorite brands.
