A new Samsung Galaxy Watch was announced at the annual Galaxy Note phone event on Thursday, with U.S. release on Aug. 24.
The watch will have 3G/LTE connectivity and charge wirelessly, with two different models being offered: a silver version 46 millimeters in size and smaller 42-millimeter black and rose gold versions, The Verge reported.
The new watch will depart from previous Gear branding and will be more closely tied to Samsung’s Galaxy tablets and smartphones. Turning the bezel will change the screen from a traditional-looking watch face to various screens for fitness, music, notifications, weather info, alarms, contacts, and more, The Verge reported.
Battery life is advertised at up to four days. The Bluetooth version of the watch is expected to retail for $329.99 to $349.99. It will be available at Amazon.com, Best Buy, and Samsung.com, with the LTE version also being available at an unknown price through the major cell phone carriers later in the year, The Verge reported.
The Samsung website also boasts that the watch has military-grade durability and can be worn while swimming. “Leave your phone at home,” the description reads.
The watch is an alternative to the Apple Watch, and is compatible with both Android and iOS smartphones and tablets, the Samsung site pointed out. It will be released in Korea on Aug. 31 and in other markets on Sept. 14.
