A Craigslist user has posted what appears to be a 2009 New Orleans Saints Super Bowl ring with an asking price of $45,000.
A Saints helmet with the number 29 on the back and signatures from Drew Brees, Jeremy Shockey, Darren Sharper, and Reggie Bush
also was listed for $3,500 by the same user, The Times-Picayune reported.
The Saints gave out 219 rings that season, and there were three active players — Chris McAlister, Marcus McCauley, and Herana-Daze Jones — along with practice squad member Glenn Sharpe who were listed with the number 29, The Times-Picayune said.
The ring’s owner remains a mystery, with many speculating about which of those players may be in need of money.
TMZ reported in 2011 that McAlister, who was released two months before the Saints won the Super Bowl, was broke and living with his parents.
Sharpe was charged with murder in the Atlanta area in 2012. The Craigslist post, while listed on the New Orleans board, shows the location of the ring as Atlanta, Georgia.
The
Craigslist ad describes the ring as “currently owned by a former Saints player. It is in perfect condition boasting 103 round, brilliant cut diamonds weighing 2.20 carats total weight, H color, VS clarity range. The fleur-de-lis team logo is fully encompassed and surrounded with diamonds. The remainder of the ring is 14K gold.”
