A Ryanair passenger raced across the tarmac at Spain's Madrid-Barajas Airport recently to flag down his flight, and a video of the unlikely scene was soon posted online by a ground crew member.

The passenger boarded the plane and was detained upon landing at his destination in the Canary Islands, CNN reported.

The video shows the man jumping off the air bridge and sprinting across the tarmac to the plane, which had already pulled away from the terminal.

"This particular passenger was missing a Ryanair flight and, unbelievably, skipped several security protocols established by AENA [the authority which deals with Madrid-Barajas airport]," the post said in Spanish. "We're talking about level 4 security protocols!"

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Aug. 5, an AENA spokesman told The Guardian.

"The passenger had reached the gate with his boarding pass after clearing security," the spokesman said. "He broke through a fire escape, the doors opened and he got out that way."

An alarm reportedly sounded, and the civil guard was called.

The Bolivian national was carrying two bags as he ran to catch the plane, The Independent reported.

“It is surprising but it happened,” a spokesman for AENA told The Local. “This passenger had a boarding card and went through security but he seemingly got waylaid in the terminal and the gate was closed before he reached it.”

Twitter users shared mixed reactions to the bizarre incident.
