Ryan Rallies Backers in Virginia

Riding the crest of enthusiasm generated from the Republican National Convention, vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan told supporters at a private hangar at Richmond International Airport on Friday that he and Mitt Romney would “get the American dream intact again.”

“You're getting to know a decent man, a faithful man, an honorable man,” Ryan said of Romney, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports. The Wisconsin congressman’s remarks came a day after Romney accepted the GOP presidential nomination in Tampa.

Early polls have shown the Romney-Ryan ticket receiving up to a 2 percent “bounce” from the convention. The former Massachusetts governor spent Friday with Louisiana with GOP Gov. Bobby Jindal, touring areas damaged by Hurricane Isaac .

In Richmond, Ryan was introduced by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor. He described Romney as a “principled leader” whose campaign would be more than a referendum on President Barack Obama's policies, the Times-Dispatch reports.

“We're offering solutions,” he said. “We're offering specific ideas.”

Ryan told supporters that his appearance in Richmond right after the convention demonstrated Virginia’s importance as a swing state in this presidential election, the newspaper reports.
