Rush: NC Gov. Perdue's 'Joke' on Election Reflects Desperation

By    |   Wednesday, 28 September 2011 02:39 PM EDT

North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue’s call for Congress to suspend elections until 2014 so politicians can concentrate on the economy is a last-ditch effort by a desperate Democratic Party, Rush Limbaugh said today.

“If they could get away with canceling elections, they would do it,” Limbaugh said on his talk show today. “That’s what the American left is all about.”

Republicans originally scoffed at Perdue’s suggestion, which her office then clarified and finall recast as “hyperbole.”

“She can’t be too bright,” Limbaugh said of Perdue. “The drive-by media spends a lot of time, lot of effort, trying to make Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, the South Carolina governor, Nikki Haley . . . look stupid.”

The press portrayed the comment by Perdue, whom Limbaugh described as “dumb, stupid, bumbling, and foolish,” as a joke, he said.

“She’s just joking,” Limbaugh said, mimicking the news articles that followed her comment. “She’s just trying to have some fun out there. Strange thing to joke about.”

As President Barack Obama continues “trying to get his base back,” the Democrats know the situation is dire, Limbaugh said.

“We don’t want elections we’re going to lose,” he said of the party. “If you have another election that mirrors 2010, the Democrats are looking at being out of power in the House of Representatives.”
