Royal wedding gift bags given out to guests invited to Windsor Castle for last weekend's ceremony are already for sale on eBay, with some going for more than $13,000.
The gift bags with printed monograms handed out to people invited by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to stand just outside the castle during the ceremony included a refrigerator magnet, a bottle of water and a chocolate coin with the couple's initials on them, The New York Post's Page Six reported.
CNBC reported 34 different auctions for the swag listed on eBay Tuesday, with prices ranging from roughly $150 to $13,552.
According to CNBC, the gift bags were given to 2,640 members of the public who were invited to the grounds of Windsor Castle for the royal wedding on Saturday, including 200 people from charities associated with the newly-minted Duke and Duchess of Sussex, 100 local schoolchildren and 610 Windsor residents.
One eBay post was selling two gift bags for $4,021.95, or $3,000 British pounds. Viewers could also place bids on the items as well, according to the eBay website.
"I was one of the 600 'honored public guests' invited to attend the Wedding at Windsor Castle and I am offering both my own official correspondence that led up to the day together with the exclusive memorabilia of a truly inspirational day," one post stated, according to Page Six.
That person was selling the items for $1,280, the tabloid said.
CNBC said the gift included:
- A tote bag bearing the initials "HM" plus the date and venue of the wedding
- An order of service booklet
- A commemorative fridge magnet
- A gold chocolate coin
- A tub of "handbag shortbread"
- A postcard
- A bottle of spring water
- A 20 percent off voucher for the Windsor Castle gift shop
While some looked to make a tidy profit off the gifts, at least one sought to raise money for a cause, CNBC said. The Swindon Night Shelter said it would donate all proceeds to the sale of its gift bag to "the complex needs of those homeless and vulnerable in Swindon and the surrounding area."
The British website Bridebook estimated the royal wedding cost at about $43 million.
"Their wedding is the mixing of two incredible time periods," Bridebook founder Hamish Shephard said. "Whilst Harry represents the endless history of the British royal family, Meghan personifies the modern day phenomena of celebrity. Whilst the wedding is being held in a castle following ancient traditions, it will also no doubt break most social media records."
