Rove's Super PAC American Crossroads Raises $5M in March

By    |   Tuesday, 15 April 2014 08:02 AM

Karl Rove’s super PAC American Crossroads raised more money last month than it did in all of 2013.

According to a report from the U.S. Federal Election Commission, the pro-Republican super-political action committee took in nearly $5.2 million in March after raising just $3.6 million throughout the entire year of 2013, Bloomberg News reported.

“There’s been a noticeable rise in enthusiasm among our donors, in part due to the impressive slate of candidates who are strengthening the opportunity to win a Republican majority in the Senate,” American Crossroads President and CEO Steven Law said in a statement.

"These numbers put us in a solid position to continue impacting key Senate races where we can help elect Republicans who will clean up the mess that President Obama and Harry Reid are making in Washington," Law added.

According to the report summary, American Crossroads has more than $6.3 million in the bank as of March 31, The Associated Press reported.

The extra funds will be instrumental to the GOP's goal of reclaiming the Senate, which will require them to pick up six seats from the Democrats this fall.

American Crossroads spent $600,000 for the month of March in advertising and is currently running ads in support of establishment Republican candidates in Alaska and North Carolina. It is also expected to support former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown in his bid to unseat Democrat Jeanne Shaheen in New Hampshire, the AP noted.

Despite the recent surge, Politico pointed out that American Crossroads' fundraising effort for the 2016 election continues to lag behind its 2012 totals. In 2012, the organization had collected some $24 million in funds at this point in the election cycle for both the presidential campaign and Senate and House races.

As impressive as the conservative super PAC's fundraising has been so far in 2014, other political action committees have raised even more funds over the past three months. The Democratic group Senate Majority PAC has raised $11 million since Jan. 1, Politico reported. The left-leaning super PAC is said to have $8.5 million cash on hand.

American Crossroads was launched by veteran GOP strategists and former White House advisor Karl Rove and former Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie, who is currently running for Senate in Virginia. While Rove remains a senior adviser to the group, the super PAC is presently run by former Republican National Committee Chairman Mike Duncan, former U.S. Chamber of Commerce Executive Forti, and Law among others.
