Rove: Obamacare Decision 'a Boost for the President'

By    |   Thursday, 28 June 2012 03:30 PM EDT

The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the healthcare reform law championed by President Barack Obama represents a feather in the president’s cap, says star Republican strategist Karl Rove.

But it doesn’t end the debate, he adds.

"It's an extraordinary step,” Rove told Fox News, according to The Hill. “It's a boost for the president, but it doesn't make the controversy go away.”

The court’s 5-to-4 ruling upheld the individual mandate that requires almost all Americans to buy health insurance, classifying the mandate as a tax.

“It probably enhances the controversy, because like so many other things connected with this act, the premises on which it was sold — this is not a tax, you can keep your plan if you want it, it'll reduce the deficit — all these things turned out to be not true," Rove said.
