The "Roseanne" spinoff "The Conners" will debut Oct. 16 instead of the late September schedule other ABC primetime shows are expected to start their new seasons, Variety reported Tuesday.
ABC announced that it will begin new episodes for many of its shows when "Dancing With the Stars" and "The Good Doctor" premiere on Sept. 24 while mainstay "Grey Anatomy" opens with a two-hour special on Sept. 27, according to the celebrity publication.
"The Conners" will rollout at 8 p.m. on Oct. 16, followed by "The Kids Are Alright" at 8:30 p.m., "Black-ish" at 9 p.m., "Splitting Up Together" at 9:30 p.m., and "The Rookie" at 10 p.m., according to USA Today.
Variety wrote that the mid-October start for "The Conners" is likely because its writers room opened weeks later than the other series after the stunning cancellation of "Roseanne" in May. Many of the "Roseanne" cast members will appear on the new series, minus Roseanne Barr, the original show's star and namesake.
The "Roseanne" reboot had quickly become one of ABC's top-rated shows this spring and plans were underway for second season when Barr posted a tweet about former Barack Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett that many found racists.
Barr would eventually apologize for the tweet that proclaimed if the Muslim Brotherhood and the "Planet of the Apes" "had a baby," it would be Jarrett. Outcry from the tweet, including from some of the show's own costars, led to the series being shelved.
Last week, Barr said in a YouTube video that she believed Jarrett was white, the HuffPost.com wrote.
Appearing on ABC's "The View" on Wednesday, Jarrett said she has tried to move on from the controversy, according to People magazine.
"In all seriousness, as I've said before, I'm fine," Jarrett said, according to People. "… Now, if one of you said something like that about me that might hurt my feelings, but this isn't what keeps me up at night.
"What keeps me up at night are those families being separated on the borders, or our children going to school worrying about whether or not they’re going to be safe, and the parents who drop them off. I mean, these are the things that keep me up at night. Not a racist tweet. … I think there are just so many issues that are more important," she continued.
