A revival of the hugely popular 1990s sitcom “Roseanne” will be coming to TV soon, though the form in which it will return is yet to be determined.
An eight-episode limited series is being developed, according to Deadline, and most or all of the original cast plans to return, including Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, and Sara Gilbert.
“Roseanne” followed the fictional Conner family but drew audiences with its portrayal of working-class Americans to which many viewers could relate. The original executive producers Tom Werner, Barr, Bruce Helford, along with Gilbert and comedian Whitney Cummings, will be heading up the new project, which is currently being shopped to various networks like ABC and Netflix, Deadline reported.
It will be the latest classic series to return from the dead as of late, joining “Full House,” “Prison Break,” “Gilmore Girls,” “The X-Files,” “Arrested Development” and the upcoming “Will & Grace.”
Most of the revivals have landed at Netflix where they can draw a niche audience, but the “Will & Grace” return was picked up by NBC, its original network, Deadline reported.
“Roseanne” originally aired on ABC, so it’s possible that network could pick it up again.
Sara Gilbert and John Goodman recently appeared together on “The Talk,” and both expressed enthusiasm for doing a reboot and participated in a reunion skit, TV Guide reported.
Twitter was divided in its enthusiasm for more “Roseanne.”
